tworzyć sekwencje. Liam musi chyba go lubić - można go obejrzeć na zdjęciu
przedstawiającego Howletta leżącego na podłodze (okładka "Dirtchamber Sessions
Volume One"), SP1200 znajduje się tam tuż przed nim.

Wypowiedź Liama: "The original hip-hop drum machine. That is fat! I'm really into
the hip-hop scene, and did a lot of research into the equipment they used to get that
real heavy sound. A guy from our record company went to New York and got this for
me for my birthday; it was a really good present. It's so nice, just for single drum hits."

Opis: Liam ma ich aż 5 (!). Jeden z ulubionych (jeżeli nie ulubiony...)
sprzętów Liama. Jest do niego mocno przywiązany, ponieważ to on otworzył mu
drogę do kariery. Można go często zobaczyć w wideoklipach (Charly, Wind It Up).
Liam kocha w nim możliwość zapętlania i odwracania sampli.
"(...) bardzo godnym polecenia szczególnie twórcom techno jest stary sampler ROLANDa W-30,
używany np. przez PRODIGY.
Jest to mini warsztat pracy w jednym opakowaniu; prosty i bardzo dobry sampler o małej
pamięci, kilka ciekawych brzmień gotowych, filtr rezonansowy, sekwenser, klawiatura i
stacja dyskietek wszystko to z drugiej ręki za około 2500 złotych."

Liam: "I remember going down to the music shop in Chelmsford and saying 'What do I need?'
I was going to buy a Roland S-10 Sampler and a little sequencer but the guy in the shop said,
'Wait a couple of months, there's this new thing coming out. It's like a workstation in one
keyboard.' It was like, 'Man that sounds good.' I got the W-30 and, you know, for about four
months I didn't go out. I stayed in every day with the headphones on learning how the thing
worked. Man, I just had to learn that keyboard inside and out."
"Say we've got ten tracks in the set. Right, we hold the samples in bulk on the Akai
which holds 32 megs and then use the W-30 to sequence the songs. Take Poison, off
our Music for a Jilted Generation album. The opening bars are stored in eight bar
sections which I can call up using the W-30. It usually takes Simon my keyboard
tech about five minutes to load each one up before the show."
"Everything's triggered from the W-30s. My set up at the moment is two W-30s and a
spare one for the road, disks, and disks of sounds for the samplers. It's for stuff
played between the tracks, you know, the links: one of the W-30's really good features
is the 'loop-back' facility where the sound can go forward and loop back on itself."
"Yeah, on some tracks, the loops are played live. Instead of sequencing them I've got
two or four bars of the track all on different keys and I actually play them in. It's
really primitive, but it's also cool because you can swap it around and mess it about.
Of course you have to be precise with what you play, but I always have a safety drum
roll either side of the key so if my finger slips off the key, which happens all the
time, I can just roll it in and start it again. It's really spontaneous. It works and it's exciting."

"I think the W30 as a sampler is in some ways way ahead of other samplers. For some
people, the quality's not good enough; but for me, it's so raw, and it has looping
facilities like the Alter function, which makes the sample go forward, then spins it
round and makes it come back again. It's a really handy feature for getting a smooth
sound, and I've used that in loads of tracks where people would imagine that it's just
a sound, but the looping makes it sound like that. I'm really into the filters on the
W30, and I think you can put any sound into that machine and make something good out
of it. Because that was the only machine I had when I started writing music, it
made me so creative. That's why I still use it, because I owe a lot of respect to
it! The sequencing is so primitive that's a joke, really. Basically I did the first
demos which got us the record deal, I did 'Charlie' on it, and I did 'Everybody In
The Place' on it. When I did 'Everybody', I used the W30, a Roland TR909 and a Roland
U220 sound module, which was all I had. After that I bought an Akai S1000, but I still
used the W30. Unfortunately you couldn't expand the W30's memory, so I needed another
sampler. I still used the sequencer on the W30, right up until everything on Jilted as
well. I went on to Cubase from 'Firestarter'."

Korg Electribe ES-1
Typ: Sampler
Opis: Jeden z grupy niewielkich przenośnych modułów Korga. Został wypuszczony
na rynek po ER-1 i EA-1. Jest to sampler, czyli doskonałe uzupełnienie poprzednich
modeli (szczególnie, jak ktoś chce niskim kosztem zestawić sobie mini studio).
Różni się jednak nieco od zwykłych samplerów, ponieważ posiada głęboką ingerencję
w brzmienie nawet w czasie rzeczywistym, za pomocą gałek na panelu instrumentu.
Pamięć pozwala na zsamplowanie łącznie do 95 sek wszystkich próbek. Dodatkowo
próbki te można nagrać na karty Smart Media, albo za pomocą tych kart wczytywać
standardowe wav'y do instrumentu.
